Women in Holocaust Historiography Women Who Organized Rescue Attempts Women were members of the various public committees which attempted to rescue Jews from Europe. One of these Jewish leaders was Gisi Fleischman (1897-1944), a Zionist activist in Slovakia and one of the founders of the Working Group whose attempts to save Slovakian Jewry from destruction are all but forgotten. (See "Women of Valour: Biographical Sketches".) Recha Sternbuch of of Switzerland was another of the women who aided rescue attempts, she on behalf of Orthodox Jews. |
